 GRADINGS

STUDENTS THAT INTEND GRADING IN

2020

SHOULD SPEAK TO SOKE OR Shihan NOW !!

Students grading to brown and above -- you need a strategic plan for your training whether that is for the first grading of the year or the last  - you cannot just train for a few weeks up to the date.

Get Soke or a Shihan Kathy to look at your technique, Katas, Kihon etc and let you know what you need to work on.

Then GO AWAY AND WORK ON IT !!

When you think you have got it right go back and ask again.

It's better than waiting until Grading day.

We have a lot of students grading to high level this coming year, make sure you stand out in all areas of your art.

At these levels you "GRADE" each time you train.

You must bring enthusiasm, a willingness to take instruction, make the necessary corrections and attend classes consistently.

THERE IS NO SHORT CUT TO BLACK BELT IN THIS CLUB.

YOU ALL HAVE THE ABILITY OR YOU WOULD NOT HAVE COME THIS FAR, DON'T LET YOURSELF OR YOUR INSTRUCTORS DOWN.

 Grading notes.

Grading notes - please read carefully

There are a few things that need to be explained for people who have graded or are intending to grade in the future.

Firstly, each student is assessed not only on their technical abilities but also on the individual effort that we know they are capable of, this is not only looked at during the Grading but at every training session

They are NOT compared to the person next to them, their best friend or their sister or brother.

Students aged 15 and under are considered Juniors and only ever grade FOR A STRIPE -

I repeat - FOR A STRIPE

This is a full grade, it is not a failed grading  and should not be thought of as such.

Occasionally a JUNIOR student will do exceptionally well and be awarded a solid colour belt.

This is a DOUBLE GRADING , no student is permitted to go for a grading unless we are satisfied that, given the effort we know they are capable of, they will pass.

BUT it is up to them on the day to put in the effort.

As the student progresses up the belt ladder the grading criteria gets harder, this is the only way to a Black Belt in this style.

Soke should not have to stop the grading and get a Black Belt to give a "Pep talk" halfway through the proceedings, you are grading from the moment you step onto the mat, each grading ,the students are told not to "save themselves for later", but there will always be some that do.

 BIG MISTAKE.

Do not set your sights on a higher belt than you are currently capable of achieving, slow and steady wins the race.

Any parents or students that do not understand the progression of skills and other factors ( including the Karate spirit that we talk about) that eventually lead to a sucessful and achieving  student  please feel free to ring me and we can sit down and talk about it and plan your journey towards Black Belt  status.
